Jonathan Fennell was born and raised in Savannah, GA. His military career began in 1997 when he joined the active duty army only one year after graduating high school. Fennell served 4 years of active duty as a communications specialist with the 172nd Infantry at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. He became a Drill Sergeant with the 1/321st Infantry in 2004. In 2006 SSG Fennell deployed with the Multi National Security Transition Command for 6 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. From 2006 to 2010 SSG Fennell moved to Ft. Carson, CO where he was assigned to the Army’s World Class Athlete Program to train for the Olympic Games. For the next 6 years, Fennell competed as a full time Athlete and won multiple championships, including a bronze medal at the Military World Championships, 9 Army championships, and 4 Armed Forces Championships. In January of 2013, DS Fennell started teaching the army’s Master Fitness Trainers Course (MFTC) with the Army Physical Fitness School. For the next two years He taught Military Leaders how to reverse engineer Physical Training programs to meet the needs of their individual Units. Fennell is currently the Program Director/Head Coach/Co-Owner of Nuketown Strength & Conditioning, a small fitness facility in Baxley Ga.
SSG Fennell’s Military education and extra duties include, Infantry school, Drill Sergeant School, Level 2 Hand to Hand Combat Instructor, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Combat Lifesaver, Air Assault and Primary Leadership Development Course.
On the civilian side Fennell attended classes with Troy University, and is a professional fitness trainer with multiple certifications through several nationally accredited entities, including; the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and is also a CrossFit Trainer (CFL-1). Fennell also holds a 3rd degree black belt in the Korean Martial Art of Taekwondo, and is currently the Head Coach for US Military Taekwondo. He was recently selected to the USAT Coaches Advisory Council, a panel of four coaches who provide professional feedback for the National Governing Bodies Executive Director. Jonathan lives in Baxley Georgia, where he has two sons, Gabriel and Rhyu.
